Summary of Cover

TRAVEL INSURANCE

This summary is intended to describe simply and clearly the cover provided by the Travel Insurance Policy for Cordina Insurance Agency Ltd., underwritten by SOVAG, Schwarzmeer und Ostsee Versicherungs-Aktiengesellschaft, Hamburg Germany. The policy itself being a legal document will define the precise terms of the cover. A specimen may be examined on application.

You are given a choice of three levels of cover: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The following is a description of the cover in each section. A comparison of the cover and sums insured provided follows.

SECTION A- PERSONAL ACCIDENT

This section provides cover for accidental bodily injury resulting in death or loss of any limb, loss of sight and permanent total disability.

SECTION B – EMERGENCY MEDICAL & ASSOCIATED EXPENSES

This section covers payment of the following expenses: -

  • emergency medical treatment (including rescue services to take you to hospital) and emergency dental treatment incurred outside Malta.
  • cost of transporting the remains of your body back to Malta (up to Lm 2500) or the cost of burial or cremation in the country where death occurred (up to Lm 1000)
  • reasonable additional charges for accommodation if it is necessary for you to stay beyond the intended return date including the charges of one companion.

SECTION C - HOSPITAL CASH BENEFIT

This section provides for the payment of a benefit if you are admitted to a hospital

due to accidental bodily injury or illness after a stay of more than 24 hours.

PRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS – SECTIONS A,B,C

  • Any treatment which SOVAG considers not immediately necessary
  • Any claim not supported by a Certificate from a medical practitioner
  • Any claim relating to pregnancy or childbirth where the expected date of delivery is within ten weeks of the end of your trip.
  • Any costs arising from a medical condition that is known at the time of buying insurance.
  • Any treatment over Lm 500 not authorised by SOVAG.

SECTION D- PERSONAL LIABILITY

This section provides indemnity against legal liability for accidental injury to third parties or for damage to their property. Legal costs and expenses payable are also insured.

PRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS - SECTION D

  • liability arising out of criminal, malicious or deliberate acts
  • liability arising in connection with your business or profession
  • liability arising out of the possession of firearms, animals, vehicles, vessels or aircraft of any description
  • ownership or occupation of any land or building (other than occupation only of any temporary holiday accommodation)
  • mountaineering, rock climbing, pot holing, rafting or canoeing involving white water rapids, bungee jumping or similar activity, jet-skiing, sub-aqua diving, organised team football, taking part in or practising for speed or time trials, sprints or racing of any kind
  • taking part in expeditions or crewing of a vessel
  • liability arising from death or injury of your employees or members of your family.

SECTION E - MISSING YOUR FLIGHT BOAT OR TRAIN

Payment of reasonable additional travel and accommodation expenses, upon submission of receipts, when returning, if you cannot reach the original departure point of your booked trip on the outward or return trip from/to Malta because:

  1. Public transport services fail or the vehicle you are travelling in is involved in an accident or breaks down
  2. Road traffic congestion delayed you by more than 30 minutes.

SPECIAL CONDITION - SECTION E

  • You must have left enough time to reach your departure point.
  • You must get written confirmation of the reason for the delay and how long it lasts from the appropriate authority.

SECTION F1 – PERSONAL BELONGINGS AND BAGGAGE

The cover provided is for accidental loss of or damage to personal belongings (including clothing worn) and personal luggage.

DELAYED BAGGAGE

If the baggage is temporarily lost during an outward trip for longer than 12 hours an amount is payable for the emergency purchase of essential replacement items.

SECTION F2 – PERSONAL MONEY

This section provides cover for loss of cash, travellers cheques, travel tickets, hotel vouchers provided that they has been exchanged through an authorised dealer and subject to exchange control dealings.

SECTION F3 – LOSS OF PASSPORT AND TRAVEL DOCUMENT

This section provides cover for additional expenses incurred in obtaining a replacement passport and other travel documents following loss or theft of your passport while abroad.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS – SECTIONS F1, F2 & F3

  • Reasonable precautions must, at all times, be taken to ensure the safety and supervision of your property and you should do everything you can to recover lost or stolen property.
  • Valuables will only be covered if they are either attended by you or left in a safety deposit box where available
  • Loss must be reported to Police within 24 hours of discovery and report obtained.
  • Breakage of fragile articles are excluded
  • Proof of purchase of money must be produced

SECTION G- CANCELLATION & CURTAILMENT

Refund of non-recoverable deposits contractually incurred in advance for travel and accommodation should the journey be unavoidably cancelled or curtailed due to the following:

  • injury, illness or death of yourself or any person with whom you have arranged to travel or stay
  • injury, serious illness or death of any relative, fiancι(e) or close business associate of yours or of your travelling companion
  • you or your travelling companion being summoned for jury service
  • you or your spouse being made unemployed
  • your home becoming uninhabitable following fire, storm or flood
  • your presence being required by the police following burglary at your home or place of business.

SPECIAL CONDITION - SECTION G
You must not be aware of any reason why the proposed journey could be cancelled or curtailed.

SECTION H - DELAYED DEPARTURE

The cover provided is for compensation in the event of delay in departure of the ship or aircraft in which the insured is booked to travel.

You must send any claim to Cordina Insurance Agency Ltd. within 1 month of your trip ending. If you do not, we may not be able to pay your claim.

Cordina Insurance Claims Dept is open every weekday from 9:00am to 6pm and Saturdays till midday. Our staff will send you a claim form as soon as you tell them about your claim. To help us prevent fraudulent claims, we store personal details on computer and we may transfer them to a centralised system. We keep this information according to the rules of the Data Protection Act.
